In 1990, Ch'rewd was started out my dorm room at the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign with my high school friend Jason Cook. The initial idea was to create a record label to put out music when we got out of high school in 1989. We had the incredible opportunity to work with Eric “Eazy E” Wright and Jerry Heller from Ruthless Records and started doing music marketing for the labels legendary rap group N.W.A. We new the entertainment business and Hip-Hop game was cut throat so we came up with the name Ch'rewd and put our own twist on the name Ch'rewd (swapping out SH for CH being that we were based in Chicago). Ch'rewd eventually became a marketing agency that represents a broad base of clientele in the entertainment and advertising worlds. We had no business plan back when we started and were just passionate about what we were doing. I am proud to say that our non-traditional agency became one of the most innovative urban marketing and promotion companies in North America.
With everything in marketing moving to the digital space we created a sister company called Mid C Media in 2005. Mid C has become a creative boutique agency that produces video/film, for and in conjunction with event and digital marketing initiatives. I am really excited about this new venture and the future of the digital space. Interactive mediums are leveling the playing field in marketing on so many different levels. This new arena is allowing people to interact with one another, express their creativity, while voicing their brand preferences. Today's consumer is more in control of their destinies than ever before.
I have been very blessed to have the opportunity to work with a variety of different brands on many different levels. MTV, BET, Vevo, Toyota, Scion, Coca-Cola, Moet Hennessy, Red Bull, Nike, Adidas, Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures, CricKet Communications, etc.
